Hey there! Let’s talk about cannabis concentrates, shall we? If you’re new to the world of cannabis, you may have heard the term “concentrates” thrown around but aren’t sure what they are or how to use them. No worries, we’ve got you covered!

Cannabis concentrates are products made from the resinous trichomes found on the cannabis plant. They are called concentrates because they contain a concentrated amount of cannabinoids (like THC and CBD) compared to the rest of the plant. Concentrates come in many different forms and are used in a variety of ways.

One type of concentrate is called shatter. Shatter is a hard, translucent substance that looks like a piece of amber. It gets its name from its brittle texture, which can shatter into tiny pieces when dropped. Shatter is made by blasting the cannabis plant with a solvent (like butane) to extract the cannabinoids and then purging the solvent to leave behind a pure, potent product. Shatter is typically smoked or vaporized, and it’s known for its high potency and quick onset of effects.

Another popular type of concentrate is called wax. Wax has a soft, waxy consistency (hence the name) and is also made using solvents to extract the cannabinoids. However, the process for making wax involves whipping the extract to create a fluffy, buttery texture. Wax is usually smoked or vaporized, and it’s a popular choice among cannabis enthusiasts because of its high potency and delicious flavors.

One of the most well-known types of concentrate is called hash. Hash is made by separating the trichomes from the plant material and pressing them into a dense, solid block. Hash can be smoked, vaporized, or added to edibles, and it’s known for its smooth, mellow high.

If you’re looking for a more discreet way to consume cannabis concentrates, you might want to try vape cartridges. Vape cartridges are pre-filled with concentrated cannabis oil and are designed to be used with a vape pen or other vaping device. They come in a variety of flavors and potency levels, making them a convenient and customizable option.

No matter which type of concentrate you choose, it’s important to use it responsibly. Concentrates are much more potent than traditional cannabis flower, so it’s easy to overdo it if you’re not careful. Start with a small amount and wait to feel the effects before consuming more. And as always, make sure you’re using cannabis products in a safe and legal manner.

So there you have it, a brief introduction to cannabis concentrates! Whether you prefer shatter, wax, hash, or vape cartridges, there’s a concentrate out there that’s perfect for you. So go ahead, try something new and enjoy the many benefits that cannabis has to offer!

Let’s talk about vaping. Often villainized but the second most popular method of cannabis consumption. We believe because it is a mild, enjoyable and easily concealed way of enjoying cannabis. The pull is smoother and easier on the throat, doesn’t smell nearly as much as whole flower and often a much milder high- so if you are looking for something discreet but enjoy smoking cannabis and don’t want to smell like it, this could be for you!

Now how to choose a vape that’s right for you? Consider the feeling you are looking for first and foremost. Choose a strain that fits your needs best and then a type of vape you’d prefer. There are rechargeable options available as well as disposable vapes.

Choosing a rechargeable vape? Great! Time to find a cartridge to put on your battery. Often they come together to start and then you’ll just buy the “cart” there after. Instead of containing nicotine, cannabis vape cartridges typically contain a mixture of cannabinoids, terpenes, various solvents used as thinning agents, and flavoring additives. By pressing the power button, the vape oil is heated to create an aerosol that the user inhales.

Going for a trip or want something a little less complicated? A disposable vape is probably the option for you. Often smaller in size and great to throw in your purse or pocket. These generally don’t have a button and a lot of the modern models now have a timer for the inhale pull to guide users when to inhale and how long. These have a number of hits programmed into them and sometimes won’t last as long as a conventional cannabis vape but are a great option for beginners or ease of use seekers!

Just like inhaling cannabis smoke from its flower form, when vaping cannabis you’ll feel the effect fast. Usually within minutes and the high lasts 2-4hrs.

It’s no secret that cannabis helps you sleep, but did you know there are specific cannabinoids and terpenes you can specifically choose to optimize this effect? Working with our cannabis consultants to find what is best for your sleep routine is easy at Mary Modern. Here are some key factors to consider before your search for some cannabis zzz’s.

The first thing you need to do is remember that strains labeled as “Indica” are best for rest and lulling you to sleep. Visually, Indica dominant cannabis has denser, larger buds and can have a heavy crystallization to it. Some of our favorite Indica cannabis strains are the classic Kush, Wedding Cake, Northern Lights or Grand Daddy Purple varieties. These strains typically have   lower THC and higher levels of CBD which is great for relaxation as well as another cannabinoid called CBN that lends its deeply drowsy quality. The terpenes often found in these are mycerene, linalool and beta-caryophyllene and humulene. Which all have sedative properties perfect for snoozing as well as excellent for pain relief (bonus!) Many modern cannabis products are marketed directly as sleep aids and have that on their packaging to help you easily differentiate them from an uplifting Sativa.

There are many ways to achieve sleepiness with cannabis but keep in mind the way you choose to ingest also helps with how quickly and deeply you’ll be able to fall asleep. Inhaling cannabis is the quickest way to feel its effects, but if you are not wanting to smoke it there are plenty of other options! We find that incorporating it into a bedtime routine is relaxing in of itself and love the use of cannabis teas, gummies or tinctures too.

Now that you’ve decided on an Indica forward strain and method in which to enjoy it, we suggest taking the product 30-45 minutes before you are ready to lay down. This gives it optimal time to settle in and unwind. Sweet dreams!

Joint Rolling

Joint Rolling

Rolling a joint is a time-honored ritual for many people who enjoy smoking cannabis. It’s a simple process that allows you to enjoy your favorite strains of cannabis in a convenient way. If you’re new to rolling joints, it can seem like a daunting task at first, but with a little practice and patience, you’ll be able to roll a perfect joint in no time!

The first step in rolling a joint is to gather your materials. You’ll need some ground cannabis, rolling papers, and a crutch (also known as a filter or tip). You can find all of these items at Mary Modern- our associates can help you find the perfect products!

Next, you’ll need to grind your cannabis. This can be done using a grinder or by hand. If you’re using a grinder, simply put your buds in the top chamber and twist it back and forth until the cannabis is evenly ground. If you’re doing it by hand, you’ll need to use a pair of scissors to chop your buds into small pieces.

Once your flower is ground, it’s time to start rolling. Take a rolling paper and place it on a flat surface with the gummed side facing up. Place a small amount of ground cannabis in the center of the paper. It’s important not to overfill the joint, as this will make it difficult to roll and smoke.

The next step is to take the crutch and place it at one end of where the cannabis is laid. If you’re using a pre-made crutch, simply slide it into place. If you’re making your own crutch, you can use a piece of cardboard or paper rolled into a cylinder shape. This step is optional, but will serve as a filter and protect your lips from getting too hot.

Now it’s time to roll the joint. Take the side of the rolling paper with the cannabis and fold it over the crutch. Use your fingers to shape the cannabis into a cylindrical shape as you roll. Once you have the joint rolled to your desired thickness, wet the gummed edge of the paper and press it down to seal the joint.

Then light your joint and enjoy. You can use a lighter or a hemp wick to ignite the end of the joint. Take slow, steady puffs and try to inhale the smoke into your lungs rather than just in your mouth. As you smoke, you may notice the end of the joint burning faster than the rest of the joint. This is normal and just means that you need to rotate the joint as you smoke to ensure an even burn.
