Some people love Christmas or the 4th of July while others relish in the warmth of the Summer Solstice or Spring Equinox – however at Mary Modern, it’s no secret that 4/20 is our favorite day of the year.  We celebrate our right to use plant medicine and stock up on our favorites since it’s the Black Friday of the weed industry.  Whether this is your first year as a cannabis-consumer or your 20th, check out our tips to get the most out of your day! 

1. Map out your route
If you’re one of the thousands of people who plan to play hooky this week, start off by mapping out your day and create a solid plan that includes your favorite shops, places to imbibe, and sunset sesh locale. 

(We HIGHLY recommend stopping by Mary Modern between 2-4 pm to enjoy our in-house henna artist that will be adorning patrons with unique, quick designs!) 

2. Pick your doorbusters
It’s no secret that 4/20 is a day to stock up & snag free goodies. Try your best to get in line early at any dispensaries that you LOOOVE.  We’ve pushed back our opening hours to 11 am just so you don’t have to agonize over where to go. Cannabis concentrates are products made from the resinous trichomes found on the cannabis plant. They are called concentrates because they contain a concentrated amount of cannabinoids (like THC and CBD) compared to the rest of the plant. One type of concentrate is called shatter. Shatter is a hard, translucent substance that looks like a piece of amber. It gets its name from its brittle texture, which can shatter into tiny pieces when dropped. Shatter is made by blasting the cannabis plant with a solvent (like butane) to extract the cannabinoids and then purging the solvent to leave behind a pure, potent product. Shatter is typically smoked or vaporized, and it’s known for its high potency and quick onset of effects.

Another popular type of concentrate is called wax. Wax has a soft, waxy consistency (hence the name) and is also made using solvents to extract the cannabinoids. However, the process for making wax involves whipping the extract to create a fluffy, buttery texture. Wax is usually smoked or vaporized, and it’s a popular choice among cannabis enthusiasts because of its high potency and delicious flavors.

One of the most well-known types of concentrate is called hash. Hash is made by separating the trichomes from the plant material and pressing them into a dense, solid block. Hash can be smoked, vaporized, or added to edibles, and it’s known for its smooth, mellow high.

If you’re looking for a more discreet way to consume cannabis concentrates, you might want to try vape cartridges. Vape cartridges are pre-filled with concentrated cannabis oil and are designed to be used with a vape pen or other vaping device.
